Stanton won’t play against Panthers; Lindley up

Posted by Darren Urban on January 1, 2015 – 1:03 pm

Bruce Arians confirmed what seemed like was coming all week as quarterback Drew Stanton couldn’t practice with a bad knee: Stanton will not be able to play Saturday against the Panthers, and Ryan Lindley will start. Stanton always seemed like a longshot to go anyway as the week went on.

The good news: Arians said everyone else is ready to play.

The plus for the Cardinals is that Stanton has been out a few weeks now and it’s not like Lindley starting is a surprise. He’s been taking all the first-team reps and, while Stanton’s status is sometimes murky on the outside looking in, the bet is that his teammates had a pretty good idea which way the quarterback situation was headed.

“When you get experience in big games, and (Ryan) has been in two big games, it affects how you play,” Arians said. “I think he’s more than ready and I think he’ll play extremely well.”

Glad to hear everyone else is ready to go.
The biggest mystery this year has been the fall of Kareem Martin. He was drafted #3 as a pass rusher something the Cards need in spades. KM seemed to be coming on early in the season and now has been relegated to inactive status.
Can you discuss his fall from grace? It’s not like all-pro guys are beating him out- even free agents have passed him by.

    RE: Kareem

Talked to him a bit this week. Hope to have something soon.

Roll on Cards, Go get em Lindley. Improvement from 1st game to 2nd game was huge. Now we need the same from 2nd game to 3rd and on. Looking forward to another shot at Seagulls.

Everyone else except for: Palmer, Docket, Stinson, Ellington, Washington, Ballard, Zastudil, Abraham, Niklas, Dwyer, and more

I just don’t get it. in the article about the Cards preparing for Cam Newton; Thomas was in the practice squad sporting jersey # 1 in black and doing his best impression of Newton. In the article Arians mentioned he looked just like Newton, and made guys look silly.

Ok, please explain to me very slowly why the Cards are not playing Thomas, and shifting their offense into an organized chaos (much like what Seattle, SF, Carolina does).

If you have a world class swimmer, for god sakes don’t make him run a marathon, Allow him to swim — to me this is more of an ego decision from the coaching staff, not to look at alternate forms of running the offense.

At best the Lindley experiment is very disheartening.

Well… much for that. Darren’s gut is right yet again! ( Damn you, Urban! ) Not having Stanton does not change my expectations any for this week. I say we should still beat the Panthers. And, frankly, even if Stanton had been able to start, I really had little hope he would make it through the game.

So, the defense ( first and foremost ) and the running game are up to put us in a position to win on Saturday. While Lindley has now actually thrown a couple of TD passes, he still has yet to have a game where he throws more TD’s than INT’s. Not exactly the guy you want to have to roll with in a playoff game….

Pure and simple, the defense has to be awesome and the Cardinals have to win the turnover battle. Our defense MUST outscore our offense in regard to TO’s to win this game. Would be nice if the offense didn’t turn it over at all. But I’ll set the magic number of times that our D needs to take it away at 3. And taking one of those back for a score would be huge!

That’s ok because we have Coop back and Fells is getting time.

    Go Cardy’s!!

Any word on the phone friendly website version?

I never thought this was a question. Surprised it was even thought he could play.

I hope we can make this a close game and do enough to win. I think our o-line can afford Lindley decent protection and I think the key to our success will be whether or not our receivers can get open and get some yards after the catch. That and converting on third down. I know you can say that about every team and every game but we really do have to make the most of our opportunities on Saturday. If our receivers can’t get open there is not too much Lindley will be able to do.

    Chuck 1,

To answer your question a few days ago.

    The top 6 QBs who could be in the draft;

    1) Marcus Mariota – Oregon
    2) Conner Cook – Michigan St
    3) Kevin Hogan – Stanford
    4) Bryce Petty – Baylor
    5) J Winston – Florida St
    6) Brett Hundley – UCLA

Petty is a 3rd rounder IMO but, the other 4 are first rounders. Winston will go higher than I have him rated. I don’t like his off the field stuff. Hundley is a 2nd rounder if the others come out. If not, he could climb into the first.
Cook and Hogan could go back to school. They are the wild cards.

I would love to land Hogan or Cook with our first round pick.

IMO, Lindley is a more effective passer than Thomas or Stanton. Thomas will be lucky if he’s on the roster next year.

Win one for the Gipper ! Should have signed a veteran after Palmer went down who could have learn’t the system by now. Really daft move if Lindley screws up.

Cut Stanton from the team and bring in a real B that is tough enough to contend and possiblt become the starter and future of the crds…Sign TEBOW !!!!!!!

ScottH… The biggest thing is winning the 3 & Out battle by a huge margin. We do that and the killer turnovers will take care of themselves on both sides of the ball…and lets try a ((spy)) dedicated man, switching them up, to breath in Cam’s face the entire game…later fans…

Like the line in that old song, “we’re gonna let it all hang out! ” Go Cardinals…

Prediction: Cardinals handle Carolina fairly easily…win by at least 10 points. Carolina has no O-Line, and their recent wins have been against losing teams. We are much better than them. This one’s “in the bag”. 2nd playoff game will be a challenge.

Seriously, I really thought we were done with the Tebow thing. I’d support bringing Favre out of retirement ( again ) before I’d even consider Tebow. Good lord…..

Kevin Hogan shouldn’t even be on that list. Petty, Winston, and Hundley are much better than Hogan. Logan Thomas is better than Hogan.

Prediction..Lindsy 4 interceptions Panthers win 35 to 6 Cards go home wishing they had signed Tebow and Cut Stanton then Larry goes to Bidwells house and pulls him from his comfy chair drags him outside and beats the crapola out of him for blowing this season of a lifetime cause he was to cheap to Bring in a Ligit QB and stop using these QB’s you can get from a vending machine..Last but not Least Larry leave the Cards and this season is his last while Carson plays maybe 5 Games and is back on IR and Stanton can’t play cause his new born baby hit him to hard and he can’t breath !

  21. By Buddy on Jan 2, 2015 | Reply

Tebow Fans will never be done pushing for Tebow…those who have followed Tebow’s career and know hwat he can do given a fair chance will stick with him …How many teams give a QB part of a season to show what he can do then drop him ? He even won more games than he lost..but because he is a white Christian they yanked him out to save the team from media hype..Tebow would be a perfect fit for the Cards…Or if Not Tebow the Cards need to shop the UFL where Warner came from and stop guessing on these drafts..AZ has never kept a QB they have drafted…Mostlt cause they could not walk after the first season and end up in a wheel Chair cause the past Def. was non existant lol..anyhow Tebow..Tebow …Tebow bring in Gods QB and let it be done !

Tim Tebow: If he was a half way good QB he would be playing in the NFL, but he is not he is talking about Collage football. Best place for him and his skill set.

    GO CARDS!!!

Tebow seems like a decent guy, but he still throws like Katy Perry ..!
Denial is still an Egyptian river..!

    Richard L,

    Thomas better than Hogan;

Hogan is 66% comp and 19 tds this year. He is big (6’4″ and 220) and athletic pocket passer.

But I am almost certain he will return to school next year.

Thomas , IMO, is a TE.

i never seen Katy throw a ball she is more into swinging bats..But still Tebow can work on his arm strength with a good trainer and did make some 4th quater comeback wins for Denver..i just feel they should work with him and see what he can do..he started out better than Elway did..When Elway first started for Denver he threw interceptions as if he was playing for the other team and did horrible his fiorst year and not much better he second..But they stuck with him and worked with him and he ended a legendary Career..look at Romo who sucked ass and is amazing they kept him around long enough to have improved like he has..Most QB start out needing time..If Tebow was Black he would still be in a starting position for some team..But White Christian…thats like trying to make it in Hollywood lol..Until i see him with a fair chance i will root for his least for one more year lol
