Todd Gurley comes to the NFC West

Posted by Darren Urban on April 30, 2015 – 6:26 pm

The Rams pulled a mild surprise with the 10th pick of the draft tonight, taking Georgia running back Todd Gurley — considered by most the top back in the draft and a potential star. If Gurley, who isn’t even 21 years old yet, pans out it’s going to be a tough matchup twice a year for the Cardinals. Then again, the Rams still don’t have much of an offensive line. In the short-term, Gurley is coming off an ACL injury and while he said he is hoping to be ready for training camp, the chances he is at full speed Oct. 4 when the Cardinals host the Rams in Week 4 seems unlikely. Their second 2015 matchup, in St. Louis Dec. 6, could be a different story. The draft hasn’t been chaotic as expected thus far through 12 picks. No trades, Marcus Mariota goes to Ken Whisenhunt’s Titans.

It seems unlikely RB Melvin Gordon lasts until the Cards at 24 now that Gurley is gone. Not with as many teams figuring to consider backs. Not that it matters — I thought all along it was unlikely the Cards went running back in round one anyway. (UPDATE: Gordon to the Chargers at No. 15, who traded up with the 49ers.)

Finally!!! Internet (teenage boys and their girlfriends!!!!!) was suppossed to have my phone 2.5 hours ago!!! Thanks son!! (By thecway, you’re 18 now and graduation is upon us, hope you like the luggage Im getting you! LOL!!!)

Now down to the important stuff in life… THE DRAFT!!!
If the Rams somehow find an O-Line look out, Gurley is a monster!!

Still hoping our Cardinals trade out of first round for extra picks in 2nd and 3rd rounds! !! With this years depth at multiple positions we could possibly get 3 starters and 1 solid contributor using our picks and the extra picks for trading out of first!!! I just dont see any game changers (except those with huge off field issues!!!) in the later part of round 1, that we cant pickup with two picks in rounds 2 & 3!!!
Cant hardly wait to see who is still on the board at 24, but hopefully my dream comes true and we trade out of first!!!

This will have at best a marginal impact for the Rams if they don’t improve the team around him.

Do I need to say anything about this pick? Gurley is a beast. The Rams just got better.

The niners just picked Armstead. Great pick. One of my favorites in the draft.

    Chargers no surprise taking Gordon/Wisconsin!

Lookingore and more like Cardinals trading out or even down (of course I hope they trade out of first!) with Chargers taking Gordon, and the run that is about to come on OLB/PASS RUSHERS (mark my words, they are going to start flying off the board!) Cardinals need to start working those phones now!!

Jets got a steal with Williams, that is one scary d-line the Jets and TB have, Bowles is going to have the Jets in the playoffs this year if he can just solidify the QB issue!!!

Of course the Cards are not taking a RB in the 1st round now that Gurley and Gordon are long gone.
Question was- if Gurley and Gordon were available would Cards have gone RB.
    I say yes.

On the clock!!!! Trade! Trade! Trade, please!!

If not even though it may be a reach, we could go ILB, with Anthony/Clemson and Kendricks/UCLA on the board it would help shore up a position of question marks!!!
But one last plea….TRADE OUT OF FIRST SK!!

I feel bad for SK in that the likely draft choices were picked off one by one before the Cards’ drafted.. But to draft DJ Humphries was a bad pick.
The Cards are trying to beat the Seahawks- but drafting a guy who can back up on the OL in 2015 is not going to do it.
SK seems to be a good GM but he can’t draft in the early rounds.

WOW!! Not only did we not trade down or out (maybe nobody wanted to trade, I’ll give them that) but D.J.Humphries/Florida was a reach, not even in most experts top five OT, or in the first round!!! Not looking so good SK/BA! All the ILB’s were on the board, hell even a TE (like McShay was saying!!) Even though I didnt agree with a TE in RD 1, there were to many other players we could have used!!
Oh well, have to trust what SK/BA have been doing for our Cardinals!! (don’t have to like the pick, but I still love what the Cardinals have been doing the last few years!!! Hopefully I end up with a huge plate of CROW on this one!!
Come on Mr Humphries, prove me wrong!!! Welcome to the Arizona Cardinals!!!

Just saw our 1st round pick….DJ Humphries bio in SI:

” Humphries is an immediate starter up front”—-great stud first round pick…looks solid…no off the field issues with many of the first rounders!!
