Receiver shot in hometown
Posted by on July 25, 2015 – 8:41 amCardinals wide receiver Damond Powell, who signed as an undrafted rookie in May, was shot Friday night in his hometown of Toledo, Ohio. The report said the injuries — Powell was hit in the face — are not life-threatening. According to the report, Powell was sitting in his driveway when the shots came from a car down the street.
Powell had 19 catches for 317 yards and three touchdowns last season for the University of Iowa. He is fighting an uphill battle to get a receiving spot at a deep position, which not only has veterans like Larry Fitzgerald, Michael Floyd, John Brown and Jaron Brown but also Brittan Golden and fifth-round draft pick J.J. Nelson.
UPDATE: Here is the statement from the Cardinals on the matter: “We are aware that Damond Powell was the victim of a shooting last night in Toledo, where he remains hospitalized. We have been in communication with his family to offer whatever support and resources we can provide. We will continue to monitor and provide updates as appropriate.”

OMG! How tragic for this young man and in Ohio, no less! Glad to hear he wasn’t killed and his injuries were not life threatening but this will, no doubt have effects beyond the visible wounds. Prayers for a full and swift recovery and hoping his Cardinal family will rally around him during this difficult time. Being deep at the WR position was going to make his time in TC even more important, is a problem many teams wish they had, and hopefully serves to bring his skillset to the forefront. A fan can’t help but cheer for these guys who may not be the marquis names or coaches favorite but who have put forth solid effort in contributing to the team.

I’m very very disappointed that nfl.com hasn’t covered this, i live in toledo and it’s all over the news. He may not be a big name player and fighting for a spot on the roster, but the more prayers the better for a speedy recovery, a lot of people looked up to this kid where he is from.
P.S. if he makes the roster, he needs to move far away from toledo as possible

Crazy criminal things happens daily it seems. Let’s pray that Powell’s vision, neurology or hearing was not affected so that he may continue his NFL pursuit. If he does not make our team, the camp time can give him some credibility for other teams….sad..

Hi Darren – – Are you pondering my inquiry about perhaps giving Eric Winston a buzz to see if he will give up any info on Washington, or is that not something you would consider? Thanks…. And, I will not ask again….g’day….

RE: Winston
Players in the program are supposed to have total secrecy within their situations and the NFLPA is at the forefront of guarding that right.

This is why players now want to play for The Arizona Cardinals. The organization could,ve just turned their back on the guy & cut him . Instead they offer not only words of support but monetary support also & still a roster spot. I hope he makes the practice squad at least.
