Arians: Powell “lucky to be alive”

Posted by Darren Urban on August 1, 2015 – 12:55 pm

Bruce Arians gave an update of rookie wide receiver Damond Powell, who has been put on the reserve-non-football injury list after being shot in the face a few days before training camp. Powell’s football future, Arians said, will “strictly be up to the doctors.”

“He’s lucky to be alive,” Arians said. “He’s got a shattered jaw, he’s got a neck brace on where the bullet went through his neck. When he’s cleared, then we could possibly talk about bringing him back off that injury list.”

Arians said he texted Powell right after the shooting occurred. General Manager Steve Keim and team president Michael Bidwill texted Powell’s mother, and head athletic trainer Tom Reed has been in contact with Powell and gave the team an update Friday.

Arians said UDFA rookie ILB Gabe Martin has flashed a lot and is someone to watch.
-This literally made my day. I want Gabe Martin to make the 53 man roster.

May God be with Damond Powell. He lives for a reason and we may never know that reason, but God wants him alive. Sometimes the slope we climb to achieve our goals and dreams is very steep.
