Cardinals sign a cornerback

Posted by Darren Urban on August 4, 2015 – 1:46 pm

The Cardinals swapped out cornerbacks Tuesday, signing Jonte Green and cutting Damond Smith. Green had taken part in the Cardinals’ rookie minicamp on a tryout basis, although he has had a couple of NFL stops with the Lions, Bills and Jets, totaling 38 tackles and an interception.

Green is the fourth player the Cardinals have signed that came to rookie minicamp on a tryout. Already on the roster are quarterback Phillip Sims and safeties Brandon Person and Harold Jones-Quartey.

Interesting….not too long ago, the DB’s were being thought of as an area where this team was deep enough that a trade might be considered to add to another position. Now, we’re adding DB’s. Not a complaint by any means….just a thought.

I really like Powers… in the slot. I think he’ll have a tough time on the outside just as he did in 2013, and just as he did going up against Mike Floyd the other day. We’re going to miss Cro this year, I hope our pass rush makes up for it!

I think they are still deep enough that they may make a trade, this guy is nothing more than a camp body, unless they get lucky and catch lighting in a bottle! With or without this signing the Cardinals should look to trade prior to cutting any DB’s, especially the Safeties! ! We have enough quality Safeties that we could probably trade two safetiesxfor draft picks, only issue is if the Cardinals push to much for a trade other teams are going to catch on and realize that if they just wait they have a chance to claim off of waivers once we cut them!
