Fitz among players sitting out Chargers game

Posted by Darren Urban on August 19, 2016 – 5:08 pm

Many of the names on tonight’s not-expected-to-play list for the Cardinals are known because they have missed practice time. The biggest name is wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald, who sat out practice Wednesday and who is resting his knee — although Fitzgerald was running sprints pregame and looked fine. Realistically, Fitz doesn’t need much time in the preseason to be ready.

It means two of the top three receivers are sitting, because John Brown is still sidelined because he has not cleared concussion protocol. Is that a concern? Of course. You hate to have one of your top pass catchers missing most of training camp and that’s what is going to happen to Smokey.

Philip Rivers is among those not playing for the Chargers.

The full list of those not expected to play tonight. (Some injuries haven’t been specifically announced):

— CB Alan Ball
— CB Justin Bethel (foot)
— WR John Brown (concussion)
— C Taylor Boggs (calf)
— CB Elie Bouka (hamstring)
— WR Larry Fitzgerald (knee)
— WR Brittan Golden (hamstring)
— DT Iosia Iosia
— CB Asa Jackson (ankle)
— CB Mike Jenkins (hand)
— S Tyrann Mathieu (knee)
— DT Robert Nkemdiche (ankle)
— LB Alex Okafor
— DT Frostee Rucker (foot)
— DT Ed Stinson
— G Earl Watford (knee)

Concerning, and hard to put a positive spin upon the preseason to date:

    1. Two games, and two games being totally blown out. Out played and man-handled.
    2. 17 players unable to play in game 2 of the preseason.
    3. Stanton’s accuracy, and efficiency is horrible
    4. O-line play has been poor — at best.
    5. John Brown’s continual concussion
    6. Brandon Williams is revealing his rookie status
    7. Team looks lethargic
    8. First pick Nkemdiche is an unknown — due to ankle sprain.
    9. I can see why the Eagles gladly released Barkley (and actually received compensation for him — 6th round pick.
    10. Center position is a huge question, as is the right side of the line.
    11. The question marks, are still looming question marks, plus more questions have surfaced.

Guess we got a preview of what the Cards are like w/o Fitz or the veteran leadership we lost on the defensive side of the ball. STILL throwing interceptions and unable to score TD is never going to get us to the SB! Our QBs were horrendous and Carson looked bored or mentally beaten–his entire affect was flat and set the stage. Jerrud Powers is our only consistent receiver not named Fitz and should get bumped up–our little speedsters dont have the hands to get the job done and Floyd doesnt have the chops for stepping up and leading– NOT #1 stuff! Our O-line????,geez WT? Keim may have made some decisions that could kill any SB hopes. Our Special Teams are probably the worst, Ive seen…maybe they should let CJ have a go at returning punts/KOs, at least he’s tough and tenasious and would be better than what we’ve seen so far.
I’m glad BA is pissed b/c somebody needs to light a fire under these guys. I feel kinda bad for Brandon Williams for being put into an unrealistic situation.
Best part of the game was seeing Coach Whiz & seeing a pretty impressive job he ‘s doing in SanDiego

Creditcard- AZ has not been outplayed and over powered….. The First preseason game AZs 1st team offense drove right down the field n scored and their starting defense shut OAK down. The O-Line looked good. In the 2nd game AZs starting defense again dominated and were missing multiple starters in both games defensively n offensively, the O-Line looked good in the 2nd game as well Humphries was very good but the offense layed an egg after a hard week of practice but the starting offense wasn’t out their long…. AZ was without multiple starters offensively yesterday as well!!!! This all just practice , they aren’t game planning or schemeing for the games , trying to exploit matchups and Arians hasn’t been calling plays.

Come this 3rd season pre season game I guarantee u Arizona will look like a different team out there. Arians is going to ride their ass all week n have them ready , they are getting all their starters back in Mathieu, Bethel , Rucker, Nkimdiche, Fitzgerald, John Brown & Okafor I’m betting will play. AZ is also game planning for this game. AZ got humbled a bit Friday and I think this Friday they are coming out swinging.
