The Cardinals haven’t announced anything and they have a roster exemption for the returning Ben Patrick if they want, but Mike Sando is reporting they have cut defensive lineman Keilen Dykes. Dykes would be eligible for the practice squad if he clears waivers. Dykes was added to the roster when Kenny Iwebema hurt his ankle and played against Jacksonville and Indianapolis. He was inactive — as was a now-healthy Iwebema — against Houston.
TUESDAY UPDATE: The announcement for Dykes’ release was just officially made, along with the announcement he is indeed returning to the practice squad. The Cards released DE Alex Field from the practice squad to keep Dykes. Ben Patrick still isn’t officially on the 53-man roster although the Cards now have a spot for him. I am guessing they will wait to see where he is physically before putting him on the roster. Since only 45 guys can be active Sundays anyway, it wouldn’t be crucial to officially fill that final roster spot yet.

The Cardinals have half their practice squad: defensive lineman Keilen Dykes, receiver Ed Gant, defensive end Alex Field and guard Trevor Canfield. The other four players are in a holding pattern until they pass physicals, meaning all four guys are new to the team. I don’t have names yet, but because they are new, it means some of the holdover possibilities – kick returner Michael Ray Garvin (who is recovering from knee surgery, so he wasn’t coming back right away anyway) or quarterback Tyler Palko – aren’t coming back. Hopefully, we’ll know who the four new guys are by the end of the day.
