The Cardinals have trimmed their roster to the requisite 75 by cutting 12 players today, in addition to waiving injured fullback Jared Crank (neck) and running back Thomas Clayton (knee) and putting on injured reserve tackle Levi Brown, which officially ends Brown’s season. The Cards had until Monday to make the moves. The cut to 53 players must come a week from today, the day after the Cards close out the preseason with a game against Denver.
The 12 released were:
— DE Landon Cohen
— WR Gino Crump
— S Eddie Elder
— WR Tre Gray
— CB Marshay Green
— WR Jaymar Johnson
— FB Reagan Maui’a
— LB Marcus McGraw
— LB Zack Nash
— CB James Nixon
— K/P Ricky Schmitt
— LB Paul Vassallo
On a side note, defensive tackle Ricky Lumpkin was fined by the NFL $21,000 for hitting a defenseless player in the head/neck area, in this case, Raiders quarterback Matt Leinart. It’s a hefty sum for a guy who has yet to collect anything more than a practice squad paycheck in the league. (Kicker and NFLPA player rep Jay Feely informs us the fine is not collected unless Lumpkin makes a roster.)

The Cardinals added nine players to the offseason roster Wednesday, signing them to “futures” deals. That included six from the Cards’ practice squad: C Ryan Bartholomew, CB Korey Lindsey, DT Ricky Lumpkin, RB William Powell, TE Steve Skelton and LB Quan Sturdivant (WR Jaymar Johnson, the seventh member of the practice squad, was not signed).
The Cardinals also brought in three new players: G Chris Stewart, who spent a little time with the Jets last season;, pass-rushing linebacker Antonio Coleman, who spent time with the Bills and Giants (and is pictured below); and tight end Martell Webb, who was briefly with the Eagles, Jets and Bucs.

After breaking his arm Sunday, nose tackle Dan Williams was officially put on injured reserve Tuesday, ending his season. To replace him on the roster, the Cardinals promoted defensive end Ronald Talley from the practice squad.
The Cardinals actually made multiple moves on the practice squad. Filling Talley’s spot, the Cards brought back nose tackle Ricky Lumpkin. The Cardinals also released tight end Steve Skelton from the practice squad and replaced him with linebacker Brandon Williams, who was drafted by Dallas in 2009 before tearing his ACL in preseason of that year.

After rookie fullback Anthony Sherman went down early in Baltimore with a left ankle injury, the Cards were in a bind since they only had one fullback on the roster. Tight end Jim Dray was forced to play the position and it hampered the Cards’ use of certain packages. That was rectified Tuesday when the Cards went out and brought back fullback Reagan Maui’a, showing that Sherman is likely going to be on the shelf short-term.
To make room for Maui’a, the Cardinals waived defensive end Ronald Talley, although they signed Talley back to the practice squad and released defensive lineman Ricky Lumpkin to do so.
Maui’a actually played pretty well in the preseason, although Sherman’s play was also solid and he was also a draft pick. The Cards hope Maui’a can pick up where he left off — although will he reunite with running back Beanie Wells for any talent shows? Only time will tell.

The Cardinals released DE Ronald Talley today to make room for RB Chester Taylor on the roster. Also officially announced were yesterday’s roster moves: Adding CBs Lindsey and Butler, cutting Spach and Sturdivant (Spach went to the Rams today, apparently).
The Cards also started building their practice squad: Holdovers CB Marshay Green, WR Isaiah Williams, T D.J. Young and DT Ricky Lumpkin, along with C Ryan Bartholomew (late of Baltimore) and WR Brandyn Harvey (late of the Falcons). Both were undrafted.
More after practice.

Tight end Stephen Skelton of Fordham and safety Jared Campbell of Miami — brothers of current Cards John Skelton and Calais Campbell — are among the 21 undrafted rookies the team has signed for training camp.
The rest of the lengthy list includes:
- Northern Arizona WR Daiveun Curry-Chapman
- Fresno State CB Desia Dunn
- Baylor P Derek Epperson
- Wofford S Tommy Irvin
- Elon WR Sean Jeffcoat
- Florida LB Duke Lemmens
- Kentucky DT Ricky Lumpkin
- Oklahoma T Eric Mensik
- Syracuse CB Da’Mon Merkerson
- Oregon State WR Aaron Nichols
- UMass G Greg Niland
- USC C Kris O’Dowd
- Kansas State RB William Powell
- BYU S Andrew Rich
- Florida State LB Kendall Smith
- BYU T Jason Speredon
- Kansas T Brad Thorson
- N.C. State G Jake Vermiglio
- Michigan State T D.J. Young
As has been mentioned before, all rookies are going to have an uphill climb this season because of the lack of offseason work. Undrafted guys usually have a tougher time anyway.
